Estimated response times are: The Juniper Flat area encompasses 23,674 acres. It extends approximately 8.5 miles north of highway 97, and it is 6 miles wide in the southern half and three miles wide in the northern half. Of this area, 19,916 acres are in private ownership, 2,663 acres are owned/managed by the U.S. Forest Service and 1,095 acres are owned/managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Recreational attractions in our area include Pluto's Cave, which receives around 2500 to 3000 visitors per yea and provides winter hibernating habitat for Townsend's Big Ear bats, and summer habitat for Mexican free tail bats. Pluto's Cave is located on county road A12 near Bonanza Drive. The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden on Highway 97 is National Forest land and administered under a special use permit to the Weed Kiwanis Club and receives thousands of visitors a year. For more information: http://www.weedlmsg.org/ USDA records show there are at least 16 farms/ranches with parcels inside the FSC district, having a total of 3,334 acres. Commercial farm acreage held within the district boundary ranges from <1 acre to 604 acres. Please click here to see a map showing location of farmland. The fee is included in the annual property tax billing.
Nearly half of the structures in the area are within the Mt. Shasta Vista
subdivision, where properties are zoned rural residential and are approximately
2.5 acres in size.
